The Lord served me a big piece of humble pie this past week.
My husband has been recovering from wrist surgery and has had a weight restriction of less than ten pounds while his arm heals.
Which means… our toddler has been 100% my responsibility.
Changing her? Me.
Putting her to bed? Me.
Giving her a bath? Me.
Getting her in and out of the car? Me.
Lifting her up for absolutely any reason? Me.
And I’ll be honest, I totally thought I “had this.” That this wouldn’t be any different than normal because let’s be real, everything always falls on my shoulders anyway.
Right?
Wrong.
Yall. I am so stinking tired. A tired I’ve honestly never experienced before.
I am hanging on by a freaking thread.
And it’s been a really important heart check for me.
Because yes, I do carry most of the weight at home most of the time.
But you know what else? Anytime my husband can relieve me of that weight, he does.
He steps in to help with dishes after dinner. He puts the kids to sleep so I can shower or go out with a friend. He takes our oldest to school much more often than I do. He pushes the cart at the grocery store so I don’t have to. He does so many little things every day that help my world go round.
And truthfully, it took a week of him physically being incapable of doing those things to make me really realize just how much he does do around here.
And dang, what a blessing it is to have such a hands-on husband that a week without him feels like an eternity.
So hey God? I’m sorry for my mumbling. Help me remember just how great of a guy I’ve got.
And hey Sam? Thank you for being oh so easy to miss when you’re not around. I love you with all I’ve got.
