My husband and I were driving home last week after a particularly hard day.
My brain was on overload, spinning in a million directions and yet feeling completely blank at the exact same time. I could feel the tears wanting to well up, but I kept blinking them away, not ready to deal with them quite yet.
We drove in silence for a while, but then my husband leaned over and quietly said, “It’s okay for you to cry, Sky.”
And that was all it took for the floodgates to open.
The tears immediately streamed down my cheeks, and kept flowing the rest of the way home. But when we pulled into the driveway, I felt so much better. And it was a pivotal moment that reminded me of this simple yet profound truth…
If you’re crying, you’re healing.
And I’m so grateful my husband created the space I needed to heal — not by fixing anything, changing anything, or really even saying anything. He gave me everything my heart needed simply by making room for my tears.
I think it’s all too easy to believe that putting on a brave face somehow makes us stronger, but this moment reminded me that genuine strength comes from growth and healing — and growth and healing only come with vulnerability and honesty.
So take this post as your own reminder that it’s okay to cry today.
Because while the world may try to convince us that bravery looks like toughness and crying looks like weakness, Scripture tells us a totally different story.
And we’re much better off listening to that one. 🤍
