We celebrate Halloween at our house.
No, we don’t celebrate evil. We don’t celebrate darkness. We don’t celebrate death.
But we do celebrate imagination, dress-up, and creativity.
We do celebrate traditions, family, and lots and lots of candy.
We do celebrate the chance to open up our door to neighbors and show them love and kindness.
And I truly do think God is glorified in that.
Yes, I know where Halloween originated from. I know the history of its existence is most definitely not something I would ever celebrate in my home.
But I don’t think this has to be an all-or-nothing thing. I don’t think our only options are to celebrate evil or not celebrate at all.
I believe we can choose to celebrate in a way that shines the light of Jesus on a day that desperately needs to see it.
It’s completely and totally okay if you disagree with me. We all have our own convictions, and we all belong to Christ regardless of where we stand on this subject.
But if you find yourself feeling stuck and not sure what to do this Halloween, I really do think we can participate in a way that is not only okay with Him, but in a way that speaks the good news of the Gospel to a world that needs to hear it.
And to me, that’s absolutely worth celebrating.
