Excuse me as I get on my soap box for just a minute here.
To anyone battling anxiety who has had Bible verses thrown in their face, let me tell you something right now.
Those verses that are constantly being preached to you? They’re in God’s Word to encourage you, not to judge you. They’re in His Word to hold you in your pain, not tempt you to hide alone in hurt. They’re in His Word to remind you to run to your Savior for help, not turn away from Him in shame.
I know how hard, hurtful, and confusing it is to have these verses spoken to you as if they’re a threat. As if God is displeased with you because mental illness is a part of your story. As if He somehow loves you less because this is something you struggle with.
I know because I’ve been there, too. And I’m so sorry if that’s where you find yourself as well. But please hear me, friend.
God isn’t ashamed of you; He loves you.
God hasn’t abandoned you; He’s holding you.
God doesn’t want you to fight this battle alone; He desires for you to draw near.
You are enough for Him, just as you are. Take those broken pieces to the cross. Sit in His presence that is full of perfect peace. And let His love remind you that He is so darn pleased with you…and He is far from done working miracles in you.
