Just Be

Just Be

The other day, out of nowhere, Saydie proclaimed “I love basement-playing days!”

And it was one of those moments that made me stop and say to myself, “okay, maybe I’m not doing such a bad job as a parent.”

Because honestly, sometimes I feel like a failure when we don’t get out of the house as much as I plan to. It can be so easy for me to put so much pressure on myself to give my girls all the experiences. To do all the things. To give them the best possible childhood I can.

And don’t get me wrong – experiences are important.
Socialization is important.
Seeing the world is important.
Making memories is important.

But so is rest.
So is pizza on the couch while watching a movie.
So is making a mess in the kitchen on a Saturday morning.
So is playing board games on the living room floor.
So is running around in the backyard or drawing with chalk in the driveway.

So is playing in the basement.

And I’m learning that while there’s so much goodness to soak up in this world, there’s also so much goodness to soak up right here within these walls.

We don’t always need to do more, or go more, or see more… sometimes we just need to BE more.

Be present. Be still. Be content.

Be home.

And remember that those simple things in the middle of the mundane when you think you aren’t doing enough might just be the things that your kiddos end up treasuring the most.
