Sometimes Silent Saturday can feel weird.
Because we’re on this side of the cross, we know what’s coming tomorrow morning. We have an anticipation for the joy that’s to come.
But on the weekend that Jesus died, no one knew what was about to happen. There was no joyful anticipation.
Only sorrow. Only grief.
To them, death had won. It was a darkness that was heavy and a darkness that would never disappear.
Maybe you can relate to that feeling.
Maybe you’ve been in a season of complete darkness and hopelessness. Maybe you’re in that season right now. Where the darkness is heavy and there’s no end in sight.
Can I whisper something to your weary soul, friend?
Jesus knows.
He understands the depths of the hurt in your heart.
And He’s ever present in your suffering – it’s exactly why He came.
And though His suffering was great, He never lost sight of the big picture. Though He begged for His circumstances to change, He trusted God’s will over His own. Though He felt like His Father had forsaken Him, He proclaimed His love to be true.
When Jesus was on that cross, He proved that God’s silence is not God being absent. He proved that death is not the end.
Darkness does not win.
Not ever.
Our Good God is always working behind the scenes, making a way where there is no way.
And when we choose to place our lives into the Hands of the Father, everything changes.
So whatever you may be sitting in today, whatever reality feels heavy and heartbreaking, rest in the truth that Jesus is holding you. His perfect love covers you. And His good and perfect plan is going to prevail. It always has and it always will.
Sunday’s coming.
