Sweetness in a Sea of Sass

Sweetness in a Sea of Sass

Sometimes, I feel like I’m getting this whole motherhood thing wrong.

Okay, scratch that. A lot of the time I feel like I’m getting this whole motherhood thing wrong.

Most days are filled with defiance and stubbornness. Irritation and frustration. Big emotions, bigger attitudes, and fights over nothing. I mean, for the love, this precious little girl in front of me has way too much sass for me to handle graciously.

But then when asking about her school day yesterday, my daughter sweetly proclaimed, “Well, I shared my afternoon snack with one of my classmates because she forgot to bring hers.” And it was one of those moments that made me take a deep breath and realize that maybe I’m doing an okay job after all.

Yes, she is stubborn.

Yes, she is defiant.

Yes, she can absolutely drive me up the freaking wall.

But dang, does she have a heart of gold.

She sees other people’s needs and does her best to help. She’s such a great friend and doesn’t know a stranger. She loves so big.

When I take a step back and see her for who she is, I’m reminded of the really kind human she’s becoming. And I couldn’t be more proud of who she is…sass, stubbornness, and sweetness perfectly rolled into one.

My incredibly kind girl, you’re already changing the world for the better.
